Sir A. Ramaswami Mudaliar and Dr. Sir A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Founders of the school, were world renowned citizens and their services to the country and the world in the fields of Education, Public Administration, Industry, Health, Medicine and World Organizations are still remembered and will be cherished forever. By virtue of their sterling traits, scintillating intellect, outstanding caliber and versatile faculties, the renowned twins have left behind indelible imprints in every sphere of National and International constructive activities. Their splendid and marvellous achievements have been duly enshrined in the annals of history. Both these eminent citizens believed that a sound knowledge of English was absolutely essential for the evolution of an egalitarian society and for achieving the national goal of providing access to education and employment opportunities to all sections of society including the educationally and socially backward segments of Indian Society.

Ever since 1960, constant efforts were made by the public-spirited citizens of Cuddalore town to start an ideal English medium Educational institution, as the Institutions that existed in Cuddalore by then could not fully cater to the needs of the ever-increasing number of children. In order to fulfil the ardent desire of the public of Cuddalore and the employees of Central Government, State Government, Government undertakings and Industrial concerns who had been sending their wards to English medium schools in other towns amidst various hardships, the ARMES was registered under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act to establish and manage a school with English as the medium of instruction. A private charitable educational Trust, founded in 1973 by Sir A. Ramaswami Mudaliar, came forward to assist the ARMES in this noble venture. The ARM Trust received generous donations from the members of the family of Dr. Sir A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar and Sir A. Ramaswami Mudaliar and this formed the nucleus for starting the A.R.L.M. Primary school in June 1981. The school is dedicated to the memories of the exemplary twin brothers, Sir A. Ramaswami Mudaliar and Dr. Sir A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar and is named after these world renowned citizens.

The school is located in about 7.5 acres of land in Cuddalore Municipal limits. The Primary school which was started in 1981 was upgraded into a High School in 1983 and recognition was obtained from the Department of Education, Government of Tamilnadu. Initially, girls were admitted in the school only upto fifth standard. Later, the admission of girls was extended to High School and Higher secondary levels, complying with the request of the parents. The maiden batch was sent for the Matriculation Examination in 1986. The school was further upgraded into a Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 1988. The first batch of Higher secondary students appeared for the Public Examination in 1988. The school celebrated its ‘Silver Jubilee’ during 2006-2007.

The school has seen development over the years in all fields. Well furnished classrooms with fully equipped modern laboratories have been constructed for the departments of Physical, Natural and Computer Science. Constant steps and measures have always been taken in improving the infra-structure of the school and all other facilities and amenities keeping in mind the prime need of the welfare of the children.

In order to accomplish the ambition of our Founders much importance has been bestowed on Spoken English. Students are provided with ample opportunities to improve English communicative skills. “Smart Class Teaching” introduced in the academic year 2013-14, for classes from I to VIII enlivens the process of learning, keeping off the monotony in continuous lectures. The philanthropic ideals and lofty aspirations of the Twins of Arcot to establish a unique institution of excellence for the people of Cuddalore have thus come true though posthumously. Within a short span of years, this institution of repute has seen tremendous growth. The products of this institution of grandeur have stamped their indelible marks of excellence in all spheres of life, across the globe. Our past pupils have carved a niche in the realms of science, technology, medicine, education, law, fine-arts, literature and even politics.

It is our fervent hope and prayer that this Institution will develop further more into an Institution of Academic Excellence where students will imbibe the rich cultural heritage of our Nation coupled with the Scientific and Technological skills of modern societies and above all prove themselves to be good citizens with sound moral and ethical values.
